Features  of Hawa Mahal - Hawa Mahal in hindi means the “Place of Winds” or the “Palace of Breeze”. In ancient india, the queens were not allowed to be a part of a public procession and daily activities in the streets to maintain the dignity of the hindu rajput culture. So, the Hawa Mahal was built for the queens and princesses so that they could watch the processions and street festivals and ceremonies from the Palace without being seen and only women were allowed to enter this palace.

Hawa Mahal Facts - Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of Jaipur conceived the idea of building this palace which was finally constructed in the year 1799.  Hawa Mahal is an amazing piece of art with beautiful facets. The palace is a five storied structure and is made entirely of red sand stone. It has about 900 small windows or ‘Jharokhas’  which are beautifully carved and decorated. These windows provide is a photogenic structure. When you are present in the palace, the cool wind blows touching your face and you feel completely overwhelmed by the grandeur of the palace and you travel back in the golden age of ancient india. The inside part of the palace glitters as the sunlight passes through the small windows and that view leaves a memorable experience throughout the life of the traveller. This is a lovely stop to escape the noise of the city for a bit,at the top, you get good views of the city and the jantar mantar , other monuments and the bazaars of Jaipur.
