Ranakpur Jain Temple is located in Ranakpur near Sadri town in Udaipur district of the Indian state of Rajasthan; it is located at a distance of 358 km from state capital city of Jaipur & nearly 100 km from district headquarter city of Udaipur. Ranakpur Jain temple is dedicated to Jain Tirthankara Rishabnath ji; he was the first Jain Tirthankara. Ranakpur Jain temple was constructed in 1439 by a Jain businessman named as Dhanna Shah from Dhanerao under the patronage of Maharana Kumbha of Mewar state; the chief architect of this project was Deepaka who started construction of this temple on the instruction of Dhanna Shah when Dhanna Shah got the instruction of temple from Tirthankara Rishabnath ji in dream as he claimed. Ranakpur Jain Temple Udaipur Architecture

Ranakpur Jain temple was built using the fine quality light colored marble; this grand temple with the whopping area of nearly 4000 m2 is known for its detailed carving on pillars, walls, ceiling & other parts of the temple. There are 1444 pillars with carvings, all pillars are differently designed i.e. no two pillars are identical. There are many statues in the temple & amazingly all statues face one or other statue. The most iconic figure in the temple is a giant statue of Parshwnath ji which has 108 snakeheads; the main deity of this temple is the 6 feet tall idol of Tirthankara Adinath Ji. The Ranakpur Jain temple is also called as Choumukha Temple which literally means Four-faced temple & this name derived of the fact that Ranakpur Jain temple has four faces i.e. it is open from all four sides.

Other Temples In Ranakpur Jain Temple Premises

Other than the main temple of Tirthankara Rishabdev Ji there are 2 more temples within the premises; one is dedicated to Sun God & other is dedicated to Lord Suparshwnath. Out of these two temples, the Sun temple dates back to 13th century CE which was destructed & then was rebuilt in 15th century. Both of these temples are known for their extraordinary craftsmanship.
